Course reflection

General Course Experience:
During this class we were working on the web-tools which in my opinion are very useful. The web-tools can be used in other classes and outside the school. For example, now I know how to use xtimeline and Google docs, which can be very useful in other classes. This web-tools make the students more engaged to their work and assignments. The other thing that i learned during this course is how to create sites and blogs, which are also very functional. I also learned how to work in teams due to the fact that most of our assignments were done in teams. I learned that in order a team to be successful each team member has to work hard and help the other team members. This skills are very important and may be helpful in other courses and also in the university. This skills may be helpful not only for my education, but also for my everyday life. Overall this class made me more engaged with the technology, and taught me many valuable skills.    

Areas for improvement:
 In my opinion the major change concerning assignments can be that assignments would be made more individually. I believe, that teamwork is very important, but the course mark should be based more on the individual work.


Technology in Education:
Yes I believe that technology can improve education, by increasing students' engagement in class. My opinion is based on the fact that working with technology is more interesting and communicative. I think that without technology the work in classes would be more difficult and boring. The classes that imply technology are more fun, and students visit them with pleasure and eagerness to explore more things. This can be even seen through our placement project with Mr. Freedman's class. As soon as we presented the site to the students and showed their ISP assignment to them, they became more engaged in class and begun to do their work more tolerably.

Post on the article "Growing Up Digital, Wired for Distraction"

  • I think i do not have anything common with Vishal, because I am not so engaged with technology. I think that for every one not only me their time online affects negatively on their grades, axcept when they are working online for their classes.
  • No i think techology does not amplify my personality
  • Yes sometimes it does, but i rarely play games on computer, however when i do it does effect my sleeping abilities.

  • No i think the students in the article does not provide an example of ones that are among my environment. Yes i think the author understands what are the teenagers using technology for.

Placemnent Update

1) Last week me and my group met our chosen teacher Mr Freedman and asked him the questions that we created for him. We find out that Mr Freedman wants us to create a site for him and teach his students how to use photoshop.

2) This week we have to have another interview with Mr Freedman to find out how exactly he wants to have his site made. We have to make the site for him and find way to teach his students how to use photoshop.

Placement blog post

1. I think i would be good at Finding online resources for teachers/ Developing innovative classroom lessons using technology. And i think Teaching video creation and editing techniques using Movie Maker, Teaching teachers and students to use technology and software and Designing and developing websites won't suit me because i have no clue about those things.

Idea: Reading Online

Details: Classes like English Spanish or History could make reading the texts or novels online. The students could analize or comment on the text online so teachers would have better idea how are the students working. Working online would make students more interested in reading and analizing the text. I Didn't expend my idea of making reading online for some classes. So i think using Google docs techers can see students comments and keep track of their reading. If students use xtimiline to write coments and plot of the events of the text they are reading teachers also would be able to see how they are working and how much they had done online.

  • Teachers could check the work that students have done online not in the end by the period given but any moment they like, which will giv e better idea how good are students working.
  • Students will work online without carrying books with them.
  • Students can hand in assignments online.

  • Tachers have to know how to use the webtools
What needs to happen to make the idea work- who is responseble

Students from over class can teach some teachers how to use the webtools that are needed. Teachers have to transfer information to students and make sure that each student have access to computer and internet.

Entry on a tool

Xtimiline is used for creating and searching timelines of events. It also can be used as diary for keeping track of events. It can be used for history classes in order to make timelines of history events and english classes in order to create timelines of the plot of books. One advantage of xtimeline is that you can easily add information to the timelines that you had previously created. You can share your created timelies with other users of the tool.
